About Cox & Cox

About us

Fiona Cox and Lizzie Thornton-Allan launched Cox & Cox Mailorder in 1999. Fiona’s background was in lifestyle photographic styling which led her to co-host the DIY programme 'Home Front' and Lizzie was a Film Producer in the music and commercials industry. When they left London with new families, they felt that with their backgrounds, they could produce a catalogue that offered unusual, beautiful and practical products and were confident they could create the kind of range that was missing from other mail order collections!

City financier Rod Taylor joined the girls in 2007. He moved from a career involving the start up and development of broking companies, into mail order when he bought and rejuvenated the garden mail order catalogue Plantstuff.

In 2009 they teamed up with Michelle Follett-Holt who now heads Cox & Cox Wholesale. Michelle has worked in the mail order toy business for 18 years as a freelance consultant for companies such as Tridias, Letterbox and Cath Kidston. She subsequently set up her own children’s catalogue Cowboys and Cupcakes which was acquired by us and re-branded. She is now very much part of the Cox & Cox family!

Cox and Cox has now substantially grown into the current inspirational and unique format with great press coverage, marketing and loyal customers. The personally chosen products have a nostalgic and retro feel aimed at individually-minded customers who trust the choices offered by Cox & Cox and do not want ‘mass-produced’.

Cox & Cox embraces the heartfelt philosophy that it is possible to create a home that is both beautiful and practical, offering a fresh escape from the norm. The product range has influences from all over the globe and takes inspiration from childhood memories, but often with a contemporary twist.

Fiona, Lizzie and Michelle endeavour to continue the Cox & Cox tradition of ‘have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.’ (borrowed from William Morris!)
